STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths)

We pride ourselves in our work and achievements in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. These subjects are enjoyed by the children in a practical, hands on, interactive and fun way. Our achievements have been recognised as we have been annually awarded the Science Foundation of Ireland ‘Discover Primary Science and Maths Award’. In order to receive this award, we present and showcase the STEM work and activities which the children are involved in, across all classes in the school.

Here are a sample of the STEM activities which have taken place in the school:

Children take part in a variety of hands on investigations and science workshops.

ICT is a part of a child’s daily school life and learning in Cregmore NS. Each class is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, class iPad and we also are fortunate enough to have a bank of surface RTs and tablets.
As well as our recognition from Science Foundation Ireland, Ms Herwood’s 5th Class has been awarded Fís awards for their hard work creating animations on a number of topics.

Each year, we participate in STEPS Engineers Week. This week promotes engineering and the importance of the profession to the children. We are fortunate enough to have many parents and friends of the school visit us in order to give the children an insight into their area of engineering expertise. These talks and hands on activities promotes interest and awareness in engineering as a potential future career for the children.

To highlight the importance of Maths in our daily lives, children participate in Maths Week each October. This week emphasises how Maths is used by many professions, in various ways. 6th Class also host a ‘Maths for Fun’ event for all children in the school, creating hands on activities for all to enjoy.
