Trip to Knockma Hill

Trip to Knockma Hill

The children of fifth and sixth class thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Castlehackett where we hiked 4.2 km of Cnoc Meadha. Knockma is said to contain excavated passages, a palace where the fairies live and a resting place of Queen Maeve, the legendary queen of Connaught. Many legends surrounds this hill which definitely adds to its charm.

Aside from the great feeling of being in nature with beautiful flora and fauna and surrounded by trees, the scenery is amazing. Many happy memories were made as the children sketched one of the most spectacular panoramic views of Croagh Patrick, lough Corrib, Galway Bay and The Burren.

We finished our trip taking a photo outside a beautiful quaint cottage, which was recently renovated, at the foot of the hill. It is the birth place of traditional musicians Delores and Sean Keane. Simply breathtaking. We will definitely be back to visit the fairies in Kockma Hill !!!!
