Cregmore National School

School note. Friday, June 12th

16-June-20

Dear Parents, guardians, Pupils and Colleagues,

I hope this note finds you all well.

Several weeks ago, we used a boat, lost on the high seas as a depiction of Nation battling its way through the Corona Virus Pandemic. We hoped that with the aid of a good captain, the local rescue services, knowledgeable crew, calming seas and a strong beacon from the on shore lighthouse, that the boat would return safely to shore. And after some time, the boat did begin to make its way home, though there were some on board casualties. Now we are told that the boat has entered the shelter of the harbour and will soon dock and tie up. However, please remember, that experienced sailors will admit that the most dangerous time when boating is when one is embarking or disembarking. That is when accidents happen, as crew are distracted, maybe excited or just not fully tuned into the potential dangers. So, as with disembarking from the boat, we must also be very careful that we do not become casual, distracted nor careless as we potentially approach the nearing of Covid 19 and the easing of restrictions. It is now that we need to be fully concentrated, careful and mature about the potential dangers ahead. Therefore, please continue to adhere to best practice, including the washing of hands, maintaining social distancing, the wearing of face masks and gloves when advised, and the immediate reporting of any potential signs or symptoms.Thank God we seem to be on the right track, and let us all play our part in fighting this terrible virus.

Yesterday was my first time to see my parents in 13 weeks. I was extremely anxious as I drove alone to West Clare as I didn't know what to expect. I could see that even though they were in good form, that the last few months cocooned had taken its toll. It saddened me but at the same time I was glad to see that they were safe and well and hopefully the Summer months will be kind to us all.I am also aware that Mr Henry Duggan (Kiltrogue), passed away today and to Noreen John and Family I extend our sincerest sympathies. This is a very difficult time for anyone who has recently lost a loved one and we all need to offer as much love and support as we can.

I am hoping that all schools will reopen fully in September as I believe that children in particular need some form of stability. I am very pleased to tell you that our new running track and Astro Turf extension will be ready and where better to reconnect with friends but outside having fun activities in the fresh air.

Finally, remember to adhere to safety procedures when visiting the school this week to collect belongings. Enter by the main car park gate and exit by the Grange Road gate. Wear a mask if you so wish. Disinfect your hands. Maintain a 2m distance. Do not bring young family members. Enter and leave efficiently and mind each other.

So until next week again. Have a lovely weekend......mind yourselves and be kind to each other.......

Kind Regards,

Joe
