Fire Safety Week was celebrated throughout our school from September 30th- October 06th 2024. It was a roaring success!
The theme this year was “We didn’t start the Fire – But what did?”
Throughout the week we helped develop the pupil’s knowledge of Fire Safety. This was done by exploring the following topics:
- What is Fire Safety?
- Fire Prevention
- Fire Detection
- Evacuation in the event of a fire
- Conducting a Fire Safety Check
Fire safety quizzes, puzzles, play, projects, stories, presentations & lots more took place across the week. Lots of fun was had listening to ‘The Ring of Fire’ & ‘The Marino Waltz’. The week was a blazing success. It’s fair to say everyone was burned out after all the hard work!! We hope that you enjoy flickering through the photos below – they reflect lots of what happened!
Do your work with pride, put safety in every stride!
Stay alert so that you don’t get hurt. Turn your attention to fire prevention.
Here are some quick Fire Safety tips for everyone
(1) Plan for a safe refuge in the event that you cannot escape from the house/school/classroom. This is a room where all of the family/class/school community can gather & wait to be rescued.
(2) NEVER
- Re-enter a burning house for personal items
- Borrow batteries from the smoke alarm
- Have mirrors over fireplaces with fires
(3) In the event of a fire, call 999 or 112!
(4) Know your home Eircode – have it written up and displayed in the home
(5) Create a night time routine that includes closing all doors, and carrying out a fire safety check before bed. Look for obvious fire dangers such as overloaded sockets and phones charging. Never leave them plugged in overnight
(6) Charge phones and tablets safely!
Never leave charge overnight, be a bright spark, plug it out!
When charging, place your device on a non-flammable surface
Only use trusted chargers from the original manufacturer
