“Prepare and prevent, don’t repair and repent.”

10/10/'23

The theme of fire safety rolled out across the school again today. Excerpts from ‘Drawing Little Men in the Ashes’, ‘The Ring of Fire’ & 'The Marino Waltz' were ringing throughout the school.

Our claim to flame for today was the theme of fire prevention. We brought the spotlight & heat onto the acronym of STOP

  • S – is for Smoke alarms. Make sure you have at least one on every level/floor.
  • T – is for Test your smoke alarms weekly or ask someone to check it for you.
  • O – is for Obvious dangers. Look out for fire risks like overloaded sockets, candles and unattended appliances.
  • P – is for Plan your escape route. Keep access routes clear and have your keys at the ready.

Other ways to STOP fire:

  • Clean your chimney at least once a year
  • Use a spark guard with open fires
  • Use proper holders when burning candles
  • Keep ashtrays empty when not in use
  • Have a suitable fire extinguisher and fire blanket in your kitchen
  • Repair faulty electrical appliances immediately
  • Close all doors at night time
  • Carry out a routine fire safety check before going to bed

A fire drill took place across the school, helping to create an awareness of successful evacuation procedures in the unfortunate event of a fire.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
